Our Methods

The Learning Gardens Educational Therapy Methods

At The Learning Gardens, we employ a variety of evidence-based methods to ensure that we are able to provide individualized support to enhance our clients' cognitive and learning abilities. Below is an overview of the primary methodologies that we utilize:

1. National Institute for Learning Development (NILD) Educational Therapy

NILD Educational Therapy is designed to address underlying learning challenges by developing core cognitive skills. This individualized approach aims to promote independent learning and critical thinking. NILD's techniques are tailored to each student's unique needs, fostering academic success and confidence.

2. Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment (FIE)

Developed by Professor Reuven Feuerstein, FIE is a cognitive intervention program that enhances the cognitive skills necessary for independent thinking and learning. The program operates on the principle that intelligence is dynamic and modifiable, not fixed. FIE employs a series of structured instruments to improve functions such as analytical perception, comparison, and categorization.

3. Equipping Minds

Equipping Minds focuses on strengthening working memory, processing speed, and cognitive flexibility. By targeting these areas, the program aims to improve academic performance and daily functioning. It integrates various cognitive exercises to enhance learning capabilities in individuals of all ages.

 4. Connections: OG in 3D

Connections: OG in 3D is a structured literacy curriculum rooted in the Orton-Gillingham approach, designed to systematically teach the structure of the English language. This program provides direct, explicit instruction in the five components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. It is effective for a wide range of learners, from traditional students to those with dyslexia, utilizing multisensory learning techniques to make reading both engaging and effective.

5. SEARCH & TEACH

SEARCH & TEACH is an early identification and intervention program targeting young learners at risk for reading difficulties. "SEARCH" assesses foundational perceptual skills, while "TEACH" provides individualized instruction to address identified weaknesses. This proactive approach aims to prevent future learning challenges by building essential skills early on.

6. Basic Concepts

The Basic Concepts program focuses on developing fundamental cognitive and linguistic skills in young children. It utilizes structured activities to teach concepts such as size, shape, color, and positional understanding, which are crucial for early learning and language development.

7. Bright Start

Bright Start is a cognitive curriculum designed for young children, emphasizing mediated learning to enhance thinking and problem-solving abilities. It aims to develop cognitive functions such as classification, seriation, and spatial orientation, providing a strong foundation for future learning.

By integrating these diverse methodologies, we tailor our educational approaches to meet each client's unique needs, fostering growth and lifelong learning.
